Insulation installment is a very important step in home building, as it ensures energy and heat conservation. Effective and efficient insulation is becoming increasingly important as heating costs rise and environmentally-sensitive building techniques become the norm. Our journeymen installers create state-of-the-art thermal envelopes using the highest quality insulating materials before securing with drywall. This helps to trap heat and energy within the walls, conserving both heat and energy. In addition to being an energy saver, fiber glass insulation also acts as a sound absorber. A properly insulated structure increases the overall comfort and adds to resale value. When making a decision on insulation, the most important factor is the "R-value" of the materials used. The higher the R-value, the greater the insulation power. All insulation materials have an R-value, and knowing the R-value allows builders to compare options to create the most effective and efficient insulation system. Available insulation typesBATS AND BLANKETSFiber glass bats and rolls are the most commonly installed insulation in the sidewalls, attics, floors, crawl spaces, cathedral ceilings and basements of homes. Fiber glass batt and roll insulation comes in various R-values. Most common R-values are R-11, 13, 15, 19, 21, 22, 25, 30 and 38. Both bats and rolls are available with or without a foil facing. The facing material is generally applied toward the 'warm-in-winter' portion of the home to help resist the movement of moisture vapor. RIGID FOAM PANELSRigid insulation panels are made from expanded foam provide the same R value as loose fill or batts but require less than 50% of the space. (3 inches of foam has the same r-value as a 6 inch batt) Foam insulation can be used under roofing material or exterior siding, foam insulation is also very durable and works well next concrete walls and it is the insulation of choice for use in foundations or footings. LOOSE FILL INSULATIONFiber glass and rock and slag wool loose-fill insulation is designed for 'open blow' applications such as attic spaces or closed cavity applications such as those found inside walls or covered attic floors. Loose-fill insulation is available in two forms - either processed from a by-product of manufacturing batts or rolls, or from 'prime' fibers produced especially for blowing applications. Both must be applied using a mechanical blowing machine. INSULATION FOR SOUNDPROOFINGFiberglass insulation also helps to deaden sounds passing through walls, so is recommended for use around laundry rooms and bathrooms or other areas where noise is an issue. |
